Biography

Dr. Birriel is a bariatric and metabolic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director at Hospital Pavia Caguas and is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has a strong passion for treating and preventing the multitude of diseases related to obesity. His specialty in the surgical treatment of obesity allows him to provide his patients with a renewed and healthier life. He believes in individualized, quality care for each patient and develops a treatment plan based on their medical and surgical needs. Dr. Birriel specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery including the Roux-en-y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional bariatric surgery. He also specializes in advanced laparoscopic foregut surgery for the treatment of hiatal or paraesophageal hernias, achalasia, as well as for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) amongst others.
