Biography

Dr. Shapiro specializes in acute care general surgery, trauma surgery, surgical critical care and general surgery. Dr. Shapiro has other interests in medicine and surgery, including: healthcare for underserved populations, injuries associated with rodeo/equestrian events, outdoor-sport related injuries, and international health. In addition, he has a special interest in complimentary and alternative medicine techniques used in critical care settings, and is board certified in Hospice & Palliative Care Medicine, having a special interest in end of life care. Dr. Shapiro has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Ecuador and Guatemala to help provide trauma and surgery-related services to populations in need. Among Dr. Shapiro's most treasured interest is in the world of patient safety, leadership and the enhancement of patient focused quality care.
