Biography

I am an academic general surgeon specializing in the care of acutely ill patients, including trauma, burns and acute general surgery. My research interest is primarily the care of severely burned and injured patients. I am invested in educating the next generation of surgeons and serve on the Residency Review Committee for the ACGME, as well as multiple quality assurance roles for trauma and burn centers. I served as the Peter C. Canizaro Chair of the Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock TX for 8 years prior to a transition to Chair of Surgery at University of New Mexico in August 2024
