Biography

Michael Dingeldein, MD, FACS, FAAP, FCCM Dr. Dingeldein is the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, OH and an Associate Professor of Surgeon at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He has had the pleasure of serving as the Trauma Director for Rainbow, which is northeast Ohio’s only ACS verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, for over 10 years. In addition, he serves as Surgical Director of the PICU, and Surgical Director of ECLS. He spent 2 years as the Medical Director of Children’s Surgery. Dr. Dingeldein graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine and finished his General Surgery Residency at Rush University / Cook County Hospital in Chicago before completing his fellowships in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care at Lurie Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Surgery at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. He and his wife Leslie, a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at Rainbow, returned to his hometown of Cleveland in 2014. His clinical interests are thoracic disease, neonatal congenital anomalies, surgical critical care, trauma, ECMO, and surgical oncology. He research interests including ECMO, the management of pediatric thoracic trauma, and the implementation of Pediatric Readiness. He is currently the co-lead of the EIIC Trauma Domain and FEMA V for Kids APSR Disaster COE Trauma Domain. He serves on the program committee of APSA and the Central Committee of the ACS COT. In 2022, he was recognized by University Hospitals as a UH Distinguished Surgeon and Senior Attending Surgeon.
