Dr. Scott Thomas has been a Clinical Professor of surgery at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center College of Medicine and Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, TX. Now, with the newly formed Baylor College of Medicine, Temple campus, Dr. Thomas has also been appointed Clinical Professor of Surgery with Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Thomas graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1994 with a BS in microbiology and subsequently graduated from the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Medicine with honors in 1998. He then completed general surgery residency training at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in 2003, joining the faculty in general and acute care surgery for two years at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. In 2005, he took an additional year of training in a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Thomas then returned to Scott & White in 2006 as the Associate Program Director and student clerkship director until assuming the Program Director role in April 2010 until April of 2022. Currently certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, he actively practices colon and rectal surgery and is involved in Departmental leadership as Division Director of Surgical Oncology and Vice Chair for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Thomas is active in several organizations including the American College of Surgeons, having served as President of the South Texas Chapter and currently a Governor of the American College of Surgeons.
