Biography

Dr Richards practices the broad range of general surgery with a particular emphaisis on laparsocopic surgery of the GI tract, repair of hernias, laparoscopic bariatric surgery, laparoscopic surgery for removal of the spleen, and adrenal glands. Dr Richards has expertise in laparoscopic surgery for treatment of Achalasia, hiatal hernias, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), incisional (ventral) hernias, paraesophageal hernias, Barrett's esophagus, and laparoscopic removal of solid organs like the spleen and adrenal glands. He is the Director of the University of South Alabama Center for Surgical Weight loss and perform laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Adjustable gastric band, and Laparoscopic duodenal switch procedures for treatment of morbid obesity.
