Due to the increase in same-day surgeries for surgical oncology procedures, patients and caregivers are now required to take a more active role in surgical recovery. Patient education is critical to improving surgical outcomes.
Developed with multi-association collaboration, ACS Surgical Patient Education provides evidence-based education to prepare patients for active participation in their surgical care. The updated Your Breast Cancer Surgery program is related to Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards and supports National Accreditation for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards.
Topics addressed throughout the program include anatomy, preoperative testing, clinical cancer staging, procedure options, pre-and postoperative care, discharge and skills training, and treatment summary and survivorship plans.
Stop by the ACS Patient Education booth at the upcoming 2024 Cancer Conference in Austin, Texas, to review these resources and to learn how to use these programs and their built-in patient evaluations for your next quality improvement initiative.
