Clinical Risk Prediction Score Helps ID Patients Who May Develop LVAD-VSI

September 10, 2024

One-third of patients who undergo primary left ventricular assist device implantation develop LVAD-specific infection (VSI). A study in the September issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS) describes a clinical risk prediction score to help stratify patients most likely to get VSI. Senior author Dr. Ida Fox explains the multidisciplinary work that involved reconstructive and plastic surgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and infectious disease experts. A free subscription to JACS is benefit of ACS membership.
