In late October, the Biden Administration’s Cancer Moonshot Program announced $6 million in award funding to the second cohort of Cancer Moonshot Scholars to advance cancer prevention, treatment, and diagnosis.

Among the recipients of the funding are two ACS Fellows—Loretta Erhunmwunsee, MD, FACS, a cardiothoracic surgeon at City of Hope Duarte Cancer Center in California, and Neha Goel, MD, MPH, FACS, a breast surgeon and surgical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Ketting Cancer Center in New York City.

Cancer Moonshot Scholars are funded through the National Cancer Institute. They represent early career leaders in cancer research and innovation, who focus on various aspects of prevention and treatment, as well as specific cancers. Drs. Erhunmwunsee and Goel will focus their research on identifying the impact of socioeconomic issues on lung cancer and breast cancer, respectively.
