The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, in collaboration with the ACS and six other societies, have released updated recommendations for perioperative cardiovascular management of patients undergoing noncardiac surgery.

These updates provide for preoperative evaluation through postoperative care for noncardiac surgery patients, including the appropriate use of cardiovascular testing and screening, management of cardiovascular conditions and medications, and recommendations for those who are taking sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors for type 2 diabetes.

Read the full guideline.

To accompany the guideline, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology has released a Perioperative Guideline JACC Interactive Tool, designed to enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes by addressing relevant aspects of perioperative care and bringing specialized cardiovascular knowledge to the non-cardiovascular clinician.
