The Moral Obligation of Addressing Second Victim Syndrome in Surgeons

Second victim syndrome (SVS)—when healthcare providers encounter significant moral distress after traumatic patient care events—remains underrecognized in surgery, and no systemic approaches exist to mitigate potential harms of SVS among surgeons.
