The ACS is accepting applications for the 2025 Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson II Promising Investigator Award (JPIA) through March 3, 2025.

The JPIA was established to recognize outstanding surgeons who are engaging in research, advancing the art and science of surgery, and demonstrating early promise of significant contribution to the practice of surgery and the safety of surgical patients. The award is supported through a generous endowed fund established by the donors and administered by the ACS Surgical Research Committee.

Special consideration will be given to surgeons who are at the "tipping point" of their research careers, with a history indicative of early promise and potential (for example, a degree program in research or a K award).

The 2024 winner was Jashodeep Datta, MD; view a list of past awardees and their research.  In addition, read an October Bulletin feature article showing how the award has shaped the career of the 2012 award recipient, Jacqueline S. Jeruss, MD, PhD, FACS, as a leader in breast cancer research.

Visit the JPIA webpage for complete details on award criteria and nomination details.
