Graduating Resident Primer

The American College of Surgeons recognizes that as residents and clinical fellows move from trainees to independently practicing surgeons, there is often a gap in the preparation for the parts of a surgery career that happen outside of the patient-care realm. While training prioritizes preparation for providing optimal patient care, residency and fellowship do not lay the extensive groundwork for handling the business and work-life balance aspects of a surgical career. The ACS has developed numerous resources to help graduating trainees and young surgeons prepare for life and work after training.
