Col. (Ret.) Kirby R. Gross, MD, FACS

Dr. Gross retired from the US Army in July 2023 after 21 years of service. He deployed 10 times to the US Central Command area of operations for a total duration of 62 months. He served as Joint Theater Trauma System Director on two operational deployments (2011–2012 and 2013–2014).

His garrison assignments included Fort Campbell Kentucky, Fort Bliss Texas, Walter Reed Army Medical Center (prior to 2011), Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (after 2011), Joint Trauma System at Joint Base San Antonio (Joint Trauma System Director 2015–2016), Army Trauma Training Detachment (ATTD) at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, Florida, and Army Medical Department Military Civilian Trauma Team Training (AMCT3) Program at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. 

Dr. Gross maintains his clinical practice of trauma at Cooper University Hospital and is active in professional societies. He was the inaugural Treasurer of the Excelsior Surgical Society (ESS), a former member of the ACS Foundation Board of Directors, and the recipient of numerous professional honors. These include the Col. John Pryor Award for military service from the Eastern Association of the Surgery of Trauma, Philanthropist of the Year from the ACS Foundation, and Distinguished Member of the ESS.
