This six-day intensive course, offered by the ACS Division of Education, is designed to provide surgeons with the knowledge and skills to enhance their abilities as teachers and administrators of surgical education programs.
The course emphasizes the needs of adult learners and the techniques necessary to develop an effective learning environment for medical students, surgical residents, and colleagues. The class size is limited, and participants are carefully selected to foster highly interactive sessions.
The course will be held at the Emory Conference Center Hotel, 1615 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, GA, 15 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The Fall 2024 course will be held September 7–13 and the Spring 2025 conference will take place March 29-April 4, 2025.
This premier hotel and conference center is set on the campus of Emory University and is surrounded by 26 acres of forest preserve. Hotel amenities include a fitness center, complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access and parking, an indoor swimming pool, and hiking and biking trails. The course is limited to 40 participants. Letters of notification regarding course acceptance will be sent by October 11, 2024.
All participants are expected to attend the entire course and remain until its conclusion.
Full payment of the course fee will be due after written acceptance into the course. Accepted participants will be invoiced via email and payment will be due within 2 weeks of the date on the invoice. The fee covers tuition, all course materials, and all meals and break refreshments. Please note that ACS members will be given priority consideration.

The registration fee does NOT include lodging. Information related to the room block for the course will be shared with participants upon confirmation of their enrollment.
Participants who need to cancel their registrations will receive a full refund, less an administrative fee of $50, provided the cancelation is received in writing by Friday, November 1, 2024. Registrants who cancel after that date will not receive a refund unless an alternate from the course’s official waiting list can be confirmed.
The American College of Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The course is intended for full-time faculty members who are interested in acquiring or honing skills in curriculum development, teaching, performance and program evaluation, and program administration as well as faculty who have direct teaching responsibilities for medical students or residents.
Participants are expected to free themselves from all work obligations during the course. The intensive nature of the program requires that evenings be kept free for preparation and other course activities; full participation by all attendees throughout the program is expected. Priority is given to current ACS members.
