QI Basics Preconference Workshop

This workshop provides a guided and hands-on approach to quality improvement, complete with discussions and activities. Topics include QI methodology, practical strategies for overcoming common obstacles, the use of data in QI projects, the importance of teamwork, and strategies for stakeholder engagement. Workshop participants are given complimentary access to the online ACS Quality Improvement Course: The Basics as part of their workshop registration.

Learning from Failure in QI Preconference Workshop

In this hands-on preconference workshop, participants will master the art of learning from failure in quality improvement. Lectures and activities will touch on why QI projects fail, how to prepare for failure, and strategies to overcome common barriers. The workshop is recommended for audiences who have quality improvement experience.

Join us for "Become the Next Generation of QI Experts," an interactive workshop designed to equip you with the skills to drive real change through Quality Improvement (QI). Dive into hands-on data analysis, build your own dashboards, and collaborate on impactful QI projects that can make a difference. Bring your laptop to sort through datasets and apply cutting-edge QI techniques in a dynamic, team-based environment!

Essentials for an Effective QI Project Team

This preconference activity will be a combination of lectures and small group breakout sessions that provide real-life strategies on building, maintaining, and salvaging teams that are formed to complete a QI project. Learners will be asked to engage in real-world, challenging scenarios that impede the effective functioning of their team and therefore threaten the success of their QI project. The goal of this preconference workshop is to provide the learners with practical tools, then practice them in a safe environment in order to achieve success in their QI projects at their institutions.

Anchoring Excellence: How to Build an Enduring Children's Surgery Verification Program and Onboard a New Crew

This session will provide an overview of Children’s Surgery Verification including key components of the program, key leadership roles, the path to Children’s Surgery Verification and a discussion about common challenges. Hear from several hospitals that have successfully navigated the seas of leadership changes and implemented the CSV standards. This session is for hospitals that are new to CSV, CSPMs, or Medical Directors of Surgery or Anesthesia who are new to their roles.

Better Together: QI Experts and Surgeons

"Better Together: QI Experts and Surgeons" is an interactive workshop designed for SCRs, QI administrators, surgeons, and surgeon champions to strengthen collaboration in ACS quality programs. Through hands-on activities and real-world case studies, participants will explore strategies for overcoming barriers, engaging stakeholders, and driving lasting improvements in surgical quality. Bring your own surgeon (BYOS) and discover how teamwork can lead to transformational change in patient outcomes!

Surgical Excellence for Older Adults: A Hands-On Experience

The ACS Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) Program is designed to help hospitals meet the rising needs of older adult surgical patients and ensure they have access to safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This dynamic preconference session explores the power of data-driven quality improvement, emphasizing its impact on patient outcomes and return on investment. Attendees will engage in a blended learning experience featuring expert-led didactic presentations, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions. Session highlights include compelling patient stories and a comprehensive understanding of the new GSV (Age-Friendly) Level—its alignment with the CMS Age Friendly Hospital Measure, actionable implementation strategies, and the pathway to becoming a verified hospital.
