Past Highlights

History of Surgery Poster Competition

The first ACS History of Surgery Poster Competition was held at the 2015 Clinical Congress in Chicago. Sponsored by the American College of Surgeons Surgical History Group (ACS SHG), the competition featured posters examining the impact of historical events on the development of the modern surgeon. Seventy-four proposals were submitted and twenty-one were accepted.

The winning poster was Jane Todd Crawford, submitted by Eugene H. Shively, MD, FACS; Randy Lehman, MD; and Victoria Graham, MD. The runner-up was William T. Bovie, the Father of Electrosurgery: A Brief History of One Man’s Major Contribution to Modern-Day Surgery, submitted by Michael A. Lopez; Jessica L. Buicko, MD; Kandace Kichler, MD; and Ashley M. Lankford, MD, FACS.
